I have for the past four years been working as a freelance translator from German into English. Originally based in Berlin I have now moved to Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK. I am a native speaker of English and a fluent speaker and writer of German. I hold a Diploma in Translation from the Chartered Institute of Linguists in London, and am a  member of this prestigious  institute for language professionals.

I love language and see translation as an art form. There is a certain beauty in a properly translated text, irrespective of whether it is an annual report, a catalogue or a literary text. Attention to this principle, coupled with a broad range of interests, allows me to work successfully in a number of specific fields:

Environmental politics/environmental science, with particular reference to policy development within the European Union and, more recently, in Switzerland. Amongst others I have covered the following fields:

• transport - the effects of vehicular pollution
• climate change - potential implications for wildlife and the natural environment
• measures aimed at nature conservation in the European Union e.g Natura2000
• water pollution and purity issues
• phthalate pollution in ground and surface water
• the effects of other types of pollution e.g. noise, electrosmog
• toxicology and epidemology
• waste disposal issues e.g. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
• health and environmental hygiene

Aid agency work. Aside from the more technical work I have also worked extensively with a German aid agency. I have been required to translate

• reports from field workers for inclusion in the organisation’s international websites
• a handbook on the introduction of Total Quality Excellence (TQE) throughout the organisation in question
• Exhibition material relating to life in a refugee camp

Property/real estate. I have in addition worked with a Berlin-based property development agency translating details of a housing stock portfolio from German into English for sales purposes. I have done similar work for clients based in Latvia and Bulgaria.

Publishing. A further area of interest has been in the world of publishing. I have been responsible for translating short summaries of new fiction and autobiographical releases for one large German publishing house for the purpose of licensing in English-speaking countries. I recently translated a book on ethical speech from a Buddhist perspective for a well-known German Buddhist commentator.

Marketing. Work I have done includes the translation of a catalogue of motorcycle accessories plus numerous other shorter texts.
